And just like that, 2015 is drawing to a close. It’s always at this point of the year which I really start to evaluate what my year has been like and what I need to do to make next year a better one. There’s so much I want to do for next year but I’m still going to keep the momentum and pace that I did this year and will not overload myself I did in previous years.
In 2015, I only set myself around 4 goals which to me were all achievable and what I really needed to achieve. I’ve achieved 3 of them already and the remainder I planned to move into next year.
Here’s my round-up of my year:
Career – Career wise my year has been on the absolute UP. I went from being in a job where on the outside, appeared to be such a good experience and don’t get me wrong it was but I had the worst and most disgusting vile manager ever. Working at that particular company was a great learning curve for me as it taught me the brutality of the greedy goats, the financial world and contracting.
I think I’m actually going to share my experience of my year working as a contract and the brutal events which lead to me getting a better job in a better company because there is so much to tell and so much many of you can learn from it whether you are contracting or not.
I now have a great job (hard and very challenging) where I’m elevating my skills and experiences in project management.
Friendships – I have made a few new friendships this year and worked on a few which dwindled. Most importantly, I’ve learnt to forgive. I’ve had friends who I’ve put on a pedal-stool and expected the effort and support in return and sadly never got it in return or receive minimal. I definitely don’t give to receive but you should be able to lean on people who lean on you. The venom or disappointment from those situations I’ve now left completely which for me is an amazing feeling as I’m only directing my energy into people who deserve it most.
25! – Yes, I turned the big 25 in August and upon reflection, I’ve done pretty well for myself if I do so say so. I can only thank God for getting me to this age and of course my mother for her positive spirit, lifting me up whenever I’m down and supporting me with all my decisions. I had a lil drink up for my birthday and a lot of old school and new school friends came out to celebrate. It turned out to be a legendary night with a few stories I don’t think I can ever share lool….
Being 25 has been great so far and I’ve got so many amazing people in my life and can’t wait to continue sharing memories with them or the new additions who may come along the way.
Travel – I didn’t do much at the beginning of the year I didn’t travel much at all. I was meant to go to Paris but that didn’t happen. However, in June I went to Barcelona which was by far one of the best trips ever. Me and my boyfriend had so much fun, good food, met so many friendly people and experienced the beauty of Barcelona to its entirety. It’s actually a destination I would return to yearly if I can and I will probably try to return again in summer but extend my stay for 5 days or a week.
I also finally experienced the USA. I went to Vegas and LA (still not over how amazing that trip was). This is another blog post which I need to post. It will probably be a first timer guide to both cities and what you need to be aware of because I can you for free, if you’ve never been, be prepared to be BUMPED. Cab drivers, waiters, the lot will hustle you in any way possible. I got my fair share of hustle out there but overall I loved the USA and I’m going back next year. Maybe to Miami to experience the great and ratchet Memorial weekend or LA or Las Vegas for Labour day weekend. I’m swaying more to Miami because I haven’t experienced it yet but there’s still so much I need to do in the other two cities.
I’ve also just returned from a more cheeky trip to the French Alps in December for Rise Festival. What an experience it has been! Skiing through the mountains for the first time and although I’m scared of heights I just went for it with minimal fear.
Blog – Most importantly, I released my blog. I actually had a blog a few years ago which died when I didn’t make any effort for it and didn’t know what direction I was going in with it. I really took my time with launching this blog, mostly due to anxiety and thinking if it would even be successful or not but in the end I decided to just let be, do my best and launch it. I’ve received so much support and positive feedback from my regulars and those who drop in from time to time. Next year, I plan to elevate my blog to another level.
I don’t want to reveal all my plans for next year but again I only have 2 goals for year but 3 which I’m still pondering on:
- Travel, travel and travel – I’ve already booked Norway and Egypt but next ideal destinations are Miami, Antigua (for Carnival), New York, Dubai &/or Bali. With the recent events happening in Egypt I do need to evaluate how safe it is nearer to my flight date. I’m also going to Norway in January and I’m hoping I can catch the Northern lights – one of my bucket list goals.
- Career – I again want to get to that next level and get into a higher managerial position.
- My third goal is still being defined. I want to educate myself either by language, a new skill which could enhance my career or hair school which I was planning to do this year. I really want to do both but I don’t want to go into overkill with my life. Maybe I could do both but split them out for the year.
- My 4th goal is another one which I’m still not sure about but I think I want to also start perfecting my cooking skills by learning how to cook dishes from other cultures/countries. This isn’t a major goal but something that interests me. Anyone that knows me, knows I loveeeee food..it’s my biggest downfall to me making those abs pop out under that layer of flat harbouring on my stomach 🙁 lol.
- Another one is sky diving. Now given how scared I am of heights, I really want to do this. Preferably if I get to go to Dubai, I will do it there.
I’m sure the above will change however I’m sticking to the approach I took this year with goal setting and life evaluation. Setting yourself a small number of achievable goals keeps you focussed and I think allows you to achieve them at a doable pace. Previous year where I had like 15 goals I would probably just about achieve one of them because I was too busy trying to juggle achieving a large of goals at once which all require time.
Bring on 2016!!!
